Where did the inspiration for the James Bond name originate ?

Posted on by admin

Maybe a number of 007 fans will be surprised just how Ian Fleming’s famous fictional Agent 007 of Her Majesty’s Secret Service came into being.

It all came about whilst Fleming – a keen bird watcher – was living in his adopted home of Jamaica.
In his book collection he owned one in particular ” Birds of the West Indies ” written by a certain ” James Bond ” It did not take him long to realise that he had found the perfect name for his character, which he later explained was “brief, unromantic, Anglo-Saxon, and yet very masculine – just what I needed ” and the rest is history as they say.

One out of nine for Casino Royale

Posted on by admin

Casino Royale failed to achieve any great success at the Baftas. Out of nine nominations, the James Bond movie won just one award, and that was for sound.

Actress Eva Green did though take an award home with her. The 26-year-old, who played Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale, was given ‘The Orange Rising Star’ award.

Daniel Craig was beaten to the Best Actor award by Forest Whitaker, for his portrayal of Idi Amin in The Last King Of Scotland.

Composer David Arnold missed out on the film music award to Babel director Gustavo Santaolalla.

Of course, Dame Judi Dench had no chance of snatching the best actress award from fellow Dame, Helen Mirren.

Craig senior: It’s all cobblers!

Posted on by admin

The father of Daniel Craig says slammed people who say his son Daniel isn’t up to playing 007 in ‘Casino Royale’.

Tim Wroughton-Craig told the Sunday Mirror: “It is all cobblers. Daniel is a hard lad – you wouldn’t want to meet him in a dark street. Is he a wimp? No, I wouldn’t like to call him that to his face. As for the idea he doesn’t like guns – when he was younger he would play with a toy gun like any other boy.

“At 15, Daniel was playing rugby for Birkenhead Park Colts. He can look after himself all right. As a lad he was a tough rugby player and he would probably have become a professional if things hadn’t turned out differently. He used to work behind the bar of a pub in Portobello Road, London, and he could certainly handle himself if fights kicked off.”

Oscar winner on Bond script

Posted on by admin

Following his success at this year’s Oscars, ‘Crash’ writer/director Paul Haggis has spoken to MTV’s Kurt Loder about his involvement with ‘Casino Royale’.

Loder: Were you called in to be a script doctor for the upcoming Bond movie, ‘Casino Royale’?

Haggis: Yeah. They sent me a script, a very good script, and asked me to think about the character and re-conceive the character of James Bond. I took 10 weeks on that.

Loder: How is this film going to be different than the 1967 original?

Haggis: It will be completely different, I think. You know, it takes James Bond from the very first Ian Fleming book, ‘Casino Royale’, when he becomes James Bond – when he gets his ‘Double 0′ status, which means he has two kills, and therefore has his license to kill. But all the bells and whistles, all the things that Q used to give him, the gadgets, those are all gone. So you deal with the character as an assassin and what it feels like to be an assassin. And I ask the question, “Why does he treat women the way that he treats them?”

So I’ve either helped to re-energize this series, or I’ve just ruined James Bond for everybody forever.

French actress is new Bond girl

Posted on by admin

It has been announced that French actress Eva Green will star as Vesper Lynd in ‘Casino Royale’.

The 25-year-old has already appeared in ‘The Dreamers’ and ‘Kingdom of Heaven’.

Bond producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said: “After an extensive search we have found the perfect actress.

“Eva is one of France’s most accomplished young actresses, now receiving international acclaim.

Columbia Pictures Motion Picture Group chairman, Amy Pascal, said: “Vesper is a pivotal role in Casino Royale and it takes much more than beauty to make this role work.

“When you think about the great James Bond adventures, of course you think about action and espionage, but you need to have palpable sexual tension in the movie and in casting Vesper, we really needed to up the ante, because this character is very much an equal to Bond and central to our story.”

In other casting, Dane Mads Mikkelsen has been chosen to play Bond’s nemesis Le Chiffre, while Jeffrey Wright will take on the role of Felix Leiter.
